Skye and Lochalsh exerts a powerful attraction to visitors from all over the world. It offers virtually unrestricted access to some of Europes finest landscapes and the opportunity to see some of Scotland's rarest wildlife species in their natural habitat.

However unmanaged access can have a significant impact on this landscape and areas of natural heritage.

The Skye and Lochalsh Footpath Initiative is a partnership project which was established in 1992 with the aim of restoring damaged footpaths and reducing environmental landscape damage in Skye and Lochalsh. The project is a partnership venture involving Scottish Natural Heritage, Skye and Lochalsh Enterprise and the Highland Council.

S.L.F.I.'s long term aim is to restore areas of natural heritage value which have been seriously damaged, through the provision of footpath access and then to maintain these routes in a good condition to allow their sustainable use
