9. Coire Lagan [South]
Starting from the main camp site, and being the most straightforward access onto the ridge, the Coire Lagan path is the single busiest route into the Cuillin range with approximately 20,000 passes per year. Users range from the serious climbing enthusiast, wishing to tackle the summits beyond Coire Lagan to those undertaking a short ascent, wishing to gain outward views of the sea and the Outer Hebrides.
It had developed into one of the worst examples of erosion damage in North West Scotland with extensive soil loss and sub-strate exposure up to 50m wide in some sections. Repair work has been ongoing since the late 80's with the final sections completed in 1996.
It is indicative of the slow rate of vegetation recovery in these upland areas that we are only now beginning to see significant vegetation recovery to the first sections of path repaired.
