8. Glensligachan

This route, starting from Sligachan hotel was originally used by ghillies and ponies taking the hotel visitors up the glen for fishing and shooting. Nowadays it is used by those wishing to visit Loch Coruisk and Camasunary and backpacking parties walking round the base of the Cuillins.

The route is susceptible to the drainage problems associated with a path of little cross path gradient and in recent times, in the absence of ghillies to clear drainage channels, problems of water logging had become extensive.

A series of projects to install a hard, well drained line through the most problematic sections at the Sligachan end was undertaken between 1994 and 1998.

Additional work was carried out in 2007 as part of the EAGGF project. This concentrated on several areas where standing water on the path was leading to multiple braiding as walkers navigated around. The contract was carried out by Skye Conservation Services.
