18. Skiary

Skiary lies on the costal footpath between Kinlochhourn and Barrisdale on the southern shores of Loch Hourn. It is a well trodden path offering access to the Knoydart peninsula and some of the remotest hills in Scotland.

The original footpath was built in the 19th century and evidence of this can be seen in the beautifully constructed revetment walls and stone culverts.

Repair work was carried out here in 2007 by Skye Conservation services as part of the EAGGF project. The drainage ditches and culverts had become blocked over the years leading to water erosion of the path surface. These ditches were cleaned and culverts were rebuilt. A short section of new path was constructed where needed.
