12. Storr
Leading up to the Old Man of Storr, a 160 foot volcanic pinnacle, and one of the most photographed rock formations on Skye, the Storr footpath is the busiest single path in Skye and Lochalsh.
The extent of the problems could be gauged by the fact that a path through the forestry section installed as recently as 1970 had all but disappeared into the deep peat and the route had to be closed.
Through a series of separate contracts between 1993 and 1998 a path has been reinstated through the forest. It is hoped that we will be able to tackle the final and perhaps the most technically difficult section between the forestry and the pinnacle itself in the next few years.
